Bristles

Illustration for onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10…, a paper discussing the origin of feathers in theropod dinosaurs and the possibility of bristles being the starting point. I was commissioned to draw a basal coelurosaur and give him a healthy spattering of bristles similar to those seen on birds. We had a bit of fun with a looking to the future pose; stately with a hint of fuzz to herald in the new era! Scales were loosely based off Sphenodon and dinosaur-type stuff. Done in my usual haunt; coloured pencil!
